Lands of America data records $513 million in land and rural property for sale in the Inland Empire. This represents some 57,089 acres of land for sale in the state. The most expensive piece of land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $13 million, though the median price for land for sale in Illinois was $459,531. The average price of land listed for sale in Illinois was $582,196. Lands of America research shows that over half the land in the Prairie State is privately owned. Some 42 percent of the appropriately named Great Lakes State is covered by water, spelling abundant fishing opportunities on its diverse spread of lakes, rivers and streams. Hunting in the state is similarly diverse, with popular game species including waterfowl, deer, wild turkey, raccoon and even skunk. In terms of its size, Illinois is the country's 25th-largest state, covering an area of 57,918 square miles (37 million acres). Of this area, 55,519 square miles (96 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 2,395 square miles is covered by water.
