Recent data from Lands of America shows $1 billion in farms, ranches and other land for sale for sale in the Prairie State. This represents some 233,058 acres of land for sale in the state. Of the 102 counties in Illinois, Cook County had the most land and acreage for sale. The most expensive piece of land listed for sale in Illinois on Lands of America recently was $10 million, though the median price for land and rural real estate for sale in Illinois came in at $294,150. The average price of land for sale in Illinois was $428,608. There was 3,504 acres of sold land in Illinois recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from July 2018. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $27.0 million. Cook County recorded the most land sales recently in the state. Some 42 percent of the appropriately named Great Lakes State is covered by water, spelling abundant fishing opportunities on its diverse spread of lakes, rivers and streams. Hunting in the state is similarly diverse, with popular game species including waterfowl, deer, wild turkey, raccoon and even skunk. With numerous opportunities to hunt species including deer, boar and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Illinois. In terms of its size, Illinois is the country's 25th-largest state, covering an area of 57,918 square miles (37 million acres). In total, 55,519 square miles (96 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 2,395 square miles comprises water.
